ARS VULGARIS_con chico-02.jpg

We are an international collective of musicians dedicated to investigation, freedom, and closeness in music.

The ensemble works through concerts, activities offered to ONG's and didactical activities.

Ensemble Ars Vulgaris is a collective of musicians and researchers brought together upon some of most inspiring questions:

Where does music come from in it's deepest form ?

Who decides the NORM ?

The ensemble plays not to answer one another, but to breathe together—the sound becomes a living organism that continues even after it ends.

For us Ars Vulgaris (art of the people) is a movement, a different perspective on classical music and echoes of the past, a dialogue between ornament and essence, elegance and rawness,  written word and oral transmission.

We perform music from diverse ethnic groups with the intention of restoring its fundamental value, celebrating its intrinsic beauty and communicative power. We trace the path of traditional music from its ancient roots through its journey into baroque music and classical music.

Ars Vulgaris also performs with period instruments, such as the baroque chalumeau, baroque and classical clarinets, armenian duduk, as well as harpsichord, organ and strings. However we do perform on modern instruments, if the topic requires.

So far, we have created several thematic productions , Untold Cities (fantastic journeys in the ancient world); El Nuevo Mundo (Hispano-American Baroque); Forgotten Voices of Klezmer (Klezmer in 19th century tradition). Currently, we are preparing new productions, such as Il Fiato che Resta (musiche erranti e voci di esilio), scheduled to premiere at the Bologna Festival in October 2025

Untold Cities, an album of stories long concealed,

Tales too beautiful, or too painful, to be revealed.

Echoes of ancient times reborn in modern sound,

A single message sought, where Art and People are bound.

Untold Cities (2021) is the debut production of Ars Vulgaris, an imaginary journey through time and cultures. It’s an expedition into dreams, forgotten lands, and encounters that exist solely in the realm of imagination, loosely inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel Invisible Cities.  Amidst motifs from Scarlatti, Vivaldi, and Mahler, original compositions by Ars Vulgaris create a timeless atmosphere, suspended between the past and the present, between improvisation and the structure of written though.
